Our Mission with Aklave is to give Africans the platform to connect, discover and share with one another in a more personalized way.
We use your personal information only for providing and improving the platform. By using the Aklave app, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with the policy below.
While signing up as a user on our App, we will ask you to provide us with personally identifiable information that may include, but is not limited to your name, email address, location, gender, date of birth and African Heritage. This information will solely be used for verification purposes and to improve your experience on the platform: helping you discover events, find places or connect with members of our community.
Personal information like name, username, current city, profile photo and African heritage will be displayed on your profile page by default and by signing up, you agree to let us share this information with the other members of the community. Other than that, we will not share any other personal details that you provide without your approval.
Since this platform is primarily a sharing, discovery and communications platform, by signing up you're by default indicating consent to let others contact you directly through the messaging features of this platform. You also have the ability to change your privacy preference in the settings area to specify who can message you directly through the platform or not.
We also collect information while you are using the app as a community member. This may include information such as your current location, your login date and the various pages you interact with on the app. This information will be used solely to verify your identity and to improve your future experience on the platform.
This App also uses the media recording hardware on your device to power the sharing features that enable you share multimedia content on your device with other users. We will not activate these tools except when you explicitly require us to do so either by pushing the camera or image share button on the app.
We may use the information you provide us to contact you directly with newsletters, community updates, notifications, promotional materials and other information that we think will be relevant to you as a member of our community. By signing up, you agree to be contacted by us for the purposes described above. We also give you the ability to control what you receive from us via your account privacy settings. We will not disclose your contact information to any other person without your explicit approval, either on the platform or outside of it.
The security of your personal information is important to us, so we've implemented industry standard security measures to ensure that the information you share or exchange on this platforrm is safe and secure. We're constantly working to improve on these measures so you can always use the platform safely and securely.
We want people to feel safe when using this platform, thus we have very little tolerance for abusive users or content that violates our community standards.
Our community standards explained here will help you understand what type of sharing is allowed on this platform and what type of content will be removed when reported to us.
We will remove content, disable accounts and work with law enforcement if we have reason to believe there is a real risk of threats to the users of this community or to the general public.
You may encounter content, posts and opinions that are different from yours, which we believe can lead to important conversations about difficult topics. But to help balance the needs, safety and interest of our community, we may remove certain kinds of sensitive content or limit the audience that see it.
We rely on users like you to help us keep this community safe for all users. If you see something that you believe is offensive or inappropriate, please report it to us. We have developed tools to help you do this while using the platform.
Also keep in mind that reporting something doesn't guarantee that it will be removed because it may not violate our community standards.
Our community administrators may reach out to you for more information about why you think a post is inappropriate for the community, please kindly respond when contacted so a flagged content can be resolved within the shortest time possible.
The penalty for violating our community standards vary depending on the severity of the violation and the user's history on this platform. For example he/she may be warned for a first violation, but if we continue to see further violations we may restrict their ability to post content, connect with other users, or we may ban the user from the platform entirely.
Not all disagreeable or disturbing content violates our standard. For this reason, we're developing tools to give you the ability to customize and control what you see by hiding posts or blocking entire content by certain users. We encourage you to use these tools to better personalize your experience on this platform.
Also you're welcome to directly reach out to a person if you disagree with content posted by that person if you feel this approach would better help you resolve any issues.
This commitment is effective as of March, 23rd 2017 and will remain in effect except with respect to any
changes in its provisions in the future, which will be in effect immediately after being posted here.
